A (Very) Serious Reflection

I am over half-way through my degree. I have several advertising campaigns under my belt. But all the while, I haven't been able to decide which specialization I want to commit to. Do I want to be an Art Director? Perhaps a Strategist. Maybe an Account Manager one day?

No, what I really like is words. I like their power, their simplicity. I must be a copywriter.

Words are my hobby. There are different categories, you see. It's like an artist with their paint pallete. There is the Humourous Word. There is the Truthful Word. There are also the Harsh, Poetic, and Loving Words. A touch of this, a touch of that. All of them have their uses in the corrrect measure. It brings me pleasure to use Words in constructive ways.

As long as I can help it, I will use my Words for good, not evil. For meaning, not nihilism. I will use them to make beautiful things and make others feel beautiful. I will use my words to tell the truth.

Let me get serious for one stinking minute.

What happens when people stop using Words to tell the truth and start telling lies?

I don't know what exactly you would call the ideology or Zeitgeist of our era. Postmodernism? Perhaps. I would call it Hateism. Everybody is constantly being told to hate everybody and everything. Everything is doubted or criticized. Everybody's opinon is 'the correct one'. There is no objective truth. People have just developed a caustic attitude to art, each other, and the world at large.

Well, that's not for me. No, sir.

Look around yourself. Isn't everything ugly? Buildings designed with no colour, semen and faeces literally photographed as "art" and sold for millions, and an entire generation of young and cocky people that don't believe in anything. They believe in nothing, hate everything, and then they wonder why they struggle with depression. It's all an unnecessary form of masochism. People just don't respect truth anymore. They won't stand for it, and when you don't stand for anything besides yourself, you ultimately become a shallow and selfish person.

Which one of these paintings is telling the truth?

As long as I can help it, I will use my Words for good, not evil. For meaning, not nihilism. I will use them to make beautiful things and make others feel beautiful. I will use my words to tell the truth.
